The Lu Flannery Memorial Scholarship Fund
Lu Flannery, one of the pioneers of our organization, died just weeks after her 95th birthday. To honor Lu’s legacy, several WJEA members have expressed their wishes to donate to the Lu Flannery Outstanding Journalist Scholarship fund – this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student journalist each spring. Simply designate your donation in the comment section on the form.
Lu advised “The Totem”, the award-winning student newspaper at Seattle’s Lincoln High School and served for many years on the WJEA board as Treasurer. Lu died peacefully on August 6, 2013, in her apartment at the Ida Culver Retirement Community, surrounded by friends. The Seattle Times ran her obituary on August 9, 2013.
