Join WJEA at Central Kitsap High School for a fast-paced day all about your student media. Rub elbows with media professionals, compete in “write-off” contests, and connect with other students and advisers representing school journalism programs from around the state.

Students
- COMPETE in on-site contests or early submission categories. Pick from 15 different contests in Writing, Photography, Layout and Design, Video & Online News. Here is the contest registration form (to be completed by your adviser by Feb. 15). Here are the write-off contest rules.
- ATTEND a choice of learning sessions by media professionals.
- NETWORK with student journalists from around the state.
- WRITE-OFF AWARDS presented at the end of the day and WJEA scholarships and other award recipients announced.
Advisers
- NETWORK with other advisers from around the state.
- CLOCK HOURS – Sign up to earn up to four OSPI clock hours for the day. WJEA members pay $5.49 per clock hour. Non-WJEA members pay $10.98 per clock hour. (Prices includes state sales tax.)
WJEA is a state designated clock hour provider. In accordance with state law, certificated teachers must earn 150 clock hours each five years to renew state certification. Payment must be made by the individual, not the school or school district, in advance of the event. In order to receive a verification of hours earned, teachers must submit a feedback form following the event. The verification form must be kept on file by the individual as proof of hours earned, should documentation be requested during the certification process. - BE A JUDGE – Join the team of write-off judges for lunch, followed by two hours evaluating morning write-off submissions.
- WRITE-OFF & OTHER AWARDS presented at the end of the day including WJEA scholarships and professional development grants.
Industry Professionals
Industry professionals with expertise in an area of journalism are encouraged to volunteer to give a presentation to students on site at the conference on March 7 or to serve a as a judge for a category in the WJEA State Write-off Contests. Both judges and content speakers receive a FREE LUNCH, GOODIE BAG and WJEA’s sincere gratitude for their generosity in volunteering!
