Upcoming Awards Deadlines

Submissions for the following WJEA awards, scholarships and grants are due February 15, 2023

Adviser Grants: Members may apply for one of two $750 grants for professional development or national JEA/NSPA convention. One grant is given to an experienced adviser and one to a new adviser with three or fewer years of service.
2023 Application

State Journalist of the Year; Robin Morris Scholarship: One journalism senior (newspaper, online, yearbook or broadcast) is awarded this honor, plus $2,000 applied to tuition at the college of his/her choice. The winner is Washington’s entry into the national JEA competition which will be announced at the national JEA/NSPA Spring Convention.
2023 Application

Lu Flannery Outstanding Journalist Award: One journalism senior (newspaper, yearbook or broadcast) is honored, plus $2,000 is applied to tuition at the college of his/her choice. Advisers of all applicants must be WJEA members.
2023 Application

Fern Valentine Freedom of Expression Award: One WJEA member/adviser receives a $500 cash award for fighting censorship issues and maintaining student free speech. (Not awarded every year.)
