Two separate days where student journalists—newspaper, yearbook, news broadcast—can hear from media professionals to learn what they do and why they do it. For media advisers, a chance to network, earn clock hours and learn more about local media.

Keynote Speaker: Zaki Hamid

Zaki Hamid
leads the community engagement department at KUOW Public Radio, whose main goal to is facilitate connections between the various communities of the Puget Sound area and the content division, so that our news coverage is more holistic. A Palestinian immigrant from Jordan, Zaki’s curiosity and passion for community connections have guided him throughout his career. He previously worked as a programs director for the state’s humanities council, Humanities Washington, where he produced public programming across the state. Zaki also had a career in theatre before making the transition to Journalism and community programming. He also teaches mass media at EvCC.

Keynote Speaker: Taylor Maggiacomo

Taylor Maggiacomo is an award-winning Graphic Editor and science illustrator working in Washington, D.C. at National Geographic where she creates engaging visual journalism and communicates complex scientific topics through infographics and data visualization. Taylor holds a graduate certificate in Natural Science Illustration from California State University, Monterey Bay, and a B.S. in Biology and minor in Art from Carnegie Mellon University. Her work has been recognized by the Society of News Design, the Malofiej Infographics World Summit, and the Society of Publication Designers.
