Launch the new school year by giving your school media program a jump start at J-Day East, held this year on Oct. 28 on the Whitworth University campus. The day kicks off with  keynote by Karama Horne, a New York-based multimedia content creator. Students will then attend sessions presented by media professionals from area print/broadcast/online media.

About Karama Horne

Karama Horne is a freelance culture journalist, podcaster and recovering video editor parked at the intersection of geekdom and diversity.

The New York-based content creator is a contributing editor to SYFY Wire where she writes a weekly feature about indie comics. As the creator of the popular website theblerdgurl.com, Horne regularly leads discussions on inclusion and representation within the pop culture genre across social media as well as on camera.

Featured on red carpets and panels across the country, Horne can be found on convention stages across the country from San Diego Comic Con, to New York Comic Con and is quoted in Vulture, The San Francisco Chronicle and Black Enterprise. Horne can be seen in Marvel Comic’s Make Me a Hero video Series and this year penned her first published work, a chapter in the Dark Horse Comics Anthology Pros and (Comic) Cons.
